I am indeed profusely grateful to Allah who has kept me alive till this time and particularly to be amongst those who witness Lafiagi Descendants' Development Union (LADDU), 2018 National Convention. I was gladdened to be amidst  the crème de la crème from Lafiagi and it's environs who graced the august occasion that took place on December 30, 2018 at Kwara State College of Education Technical Lafiagi (COETL) New Auditorium.

I am so delighted to be part of the team (National EXCOS) that will elevate LADDU (#1 sociocultural group in Lafiagi, Edu LGA, Kwara State) forward for the next 2 years as Public Relations Officer II (P.R.O2). I view it as another opportunity to serve humanity, hence, make positive impacts to the development of my fatherland and my motherland.

Despite being happy that I am the new Assistant National Publicity Secretary of the exalted Union, I am saddened by  what transpired at the event. Excluding the presence of little children who graced the occasion with their parents, I was not only the youngest member of the Executive Council, but also the youngest member of the Congress. How bad can it be? Where are our youths? Are youths relegated to the social media alone to be cyber warriors?
The youths need to learn two basic lessons from my inclusion as an Exco in the union. In the first place, THE ELDERS DON'T STOP ANY YOUTH FROM BEING PART OF DECISION MAKING PROCESS and  the YOUTHS NEED NOT TO FIGHT THE ELDERS BECAUSE WE WANT TO BRING IN INNOVATIVE IDEAS.

It is indeed crystal that if the elders do not want to welcome the youths to their midst, Usman Haruna won't be a LADDU Excos at 25 Years Old. It pertinent to reiterate that I was not forced , coerced or sponsored by anyone to contest for the post in the convention.  What i did was to contact the EL-COMM for procurement of nomination form, I returned the filled form and subsequently contested without any ulterior motives. My brothers, in any occasion where the elders deny you inclusion, challenge the status quo, not by fighting them, but, by following due processes.

I believe the elders sent us to school to  learn so that we can bring innovations not for us to come and fight them when they err. Thus, 'What dialogue cannot solve, violence cannot solve it'. Let us learn to respect the elders at all times, let us learn to approach them and even learn to get what belong to us. I want you to know that the Man you are fighting or attacking is someone's Father, Uncle and even Grandfather, the same way as your own father or Uncles and the same way you will also become a father of the society someday. What you do to them, May be done for yours or even to you when it's your time.

Let us learn to embrace peace at all times, let us exhibit standard behaviors that are not only commendable and recommendable, but also worthy of emulation. Let us be good ambassadors to  our families, our societies and the generality of humanity.

Usman Haruna,
LADDU  P.R.O 2 (National Headquarters)

Trump Says 'Big Progress' On Possible China Trade Deal

US President Donald Trump speaks during an event in the East Room of the White House on October 24, 2018 in Washington, DC. Brendan Smialowski / AFP U.S. President Donald Trump said on Twitter on Saturday that he had a “long and very good call” with Chinese President Xi Jinping and that a possible trade deal between the United States and China was progressing well.
As a partial shutdown of the U.S. government entered its eighth day, with no quick end in sight, the Republican president was in Washington, sending out tweets attacking Democrats and talking up possibly improved relations with China.  The two nations have been in a trade war for much of 2018 that has seen the flow of hundreds of billions of dollars worth of goods between the world’s two largest economies disrupted by tariffs.  Trump and Xi agreed to a ceasefire in the trade war, agreeing to hold off on imposing more tariffs for 90 days starting Dec. 1 while they negotiate a deal to end the dispute following months of escalating tensions.  “Just had a long and very good call with President Xi of China,” Trump wrote. “Deal is moving along very well. If made, it will be very comprehensive, covering all subjects, areas and points of dispute. Big progress being made!”  Chinese state media also said Xi and Trump spoke on Saturday and quoted Xi as saying that teams from both countries have been working to implement a consensus reached with Trump.
300,000 National IDcards ready for collection - NIMC

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has said that over 300,000 national identity cards for those who enrolled in 2012 are ready for collection.NIMC
NIMC Spokesman, Loveday Ogbonna, urged enrollees in the year 2012, up to August 2013 and who were yet to pick up their cards, to do so immediately.

Ogbonna said that those concerned should visit the enrolment centres where they registered and pick up their cards, which had since been printed and ready for collection.
He said that the commission had pasted names of enrollees whose cards had been printed and awaiting collection at various centres, to enable such individuals check and present themselves for card collection.
According to him, some of the people in this category may have changed the phone numbers they used to register, hence they are not able to receive text messages informing them that their cards are ready.

”Applicants who have relocated and want their cards transferred to their current location should visit any NIMC office closest to them to request for a card transfer form.
”They should fill and submit the form to the State Coordinator or Local Government Supervisor for processing.
”This is possible for those who either received text message or confirmed via the list pasted at the enrollment centres that their cards are ready for collection. This service is free for now and available at all enrollment centres,” he said.
Ogbonna said that the transfer process was necessitated by a survey carried out by the Customer Care Unit of the commission.
He said that the survey showed that over 300,000 enrolled applicants nationwide were yet to pick up their National e-ID cards.
Ogbonna said that the reasons were because they had either relocated from the locations where they enrolled, or had changed the phone numbers they provided at the point of enrollment into the National Identity Database (NIDB).
”Thousands of registered applicants have changed the phone numbers they provided at the point of registration, and as such, may not have received our card collection notifications, while some persons may have changed location since after enrolment.
”We want to use this medium to appeal to any of such persons to visit any NIMC Enrolment Centre close to them to request for Card transfer,” the NIMC said in a statement.

Sen. Kani

With deep sense of belonging and utmost respect to reader of this article, I made up my mind to discuss the above subject matter to quench the thirst that has been for decades in the core of our psychological being. I want you to read the article with your five sense organs crystally clear of bias so as to get the most out of it.

Former US President Woodrow Wilson said : "If you want to make enemies, try to change something". For some reasons, many people don’t like change, and I believe it is often because they fear it. Many times, when we grow weary or simply become bored of a situation, we get restless and begin to pray : 'Oh, God! Something has to be changed!'. Then, when God eventually brings the change into our lives, we say, "Lord, what are you doing? I don’t think I can take this change!" We often find ourselves caught in the tension between wanting change and fearing it.

Thank God, He never changes, He is always the same, we can trust Him through any changing circumstances or situations which is mentioned unambiguously in both Qur’an and Bible. This should give us great courage and comfort when we face changes in our lives. We do not need to fear change, we can handle it, because God remains the same and he is always in control.

Normally, in life those who tend to progress usually rise above the fear of change and there are people who do not outwit this fear, those who become angry when others try to make progress, better themselves, or do something new and different.

Why would people become angry about your progress? Perhaps because people who don’t want to progress themselves do not want you to progress either. They will rather judge you than face the fact that they do not really want to make the effort necessary to improve their lives or pursue their dreams with the necessary tools that would help them become accomplished. Instead they prefer to become angry and act as if something is wrong with you who is doing the right thing. That way, they do not have consider the possibility that something may be wrong with them. It is called 'blame shifting', and people who do it do not want to look inwardly to find link between their actions and their situation because they cannot accept that they are the ones not making the right choices so they shift the focus to you and try to make it look like you are the one who is off the grid.

What if Abraham Lincoln had been afraid of change?! He would not have signed the emancipation proclamation and the horror of slavery would have continued in America. What if Orville Wilbur Wright had been afraid of change?! We would all be stuck with travelling on the ground or sailing over the water instead of flying through the skies. What if Thomas Edison had feared change? We would still be reading by candlelight after sundown.

I share this philosophy with you to inspire you to think about the many good changes that have made people’s lives better and easier through the years. I am sure you could make your own list of positive changes that have occurred in your life.

Remember, the fear of change could  prevent uncountable wonderful things from taking place in your life. I therefore urge you to not let that happen, but to boldly embrace the positive changes that come your way.

I remain a strong believer that YES WE CAN overcome the fear of change in our lives, subsequently to harness the best out of us.

How to Submit Your Website to Search Engines

If search engines don’t know your website or webpage exists, your chance of ranking isn’t just an improbability, it’s an impossibility.

But here’s the thing: it takes time for search engines to discover (and index) new websites.

That means if you search for your two‐day‐old website in Google, chances are you’ll be disappointed. In fact, 9 times out of 10, you’ll find nothing.

However, even a few weeks after going live, you may still not see your website in Google, Bing and Yahoo, which have a combined market share of ~96%.

If this applies to you, and you now want to know the fastest way to submit your website to the search engines, then you’re in the right place. Here’s what we’ll be discussing in this article:

But first, let’s tackle the big question many people have in 2018…

Do you really need to submit your website to search engines?

Google and other search engines weren’t built to rely on manual submissions; that’s why they crawl the web.

Not familiar with crawling? It’s when search engines look for new links on websites and subsequently “follow” them. If a newly‐discovered link leads to something useful, that page is then added to the index.

Matt Cutts explains more about crawling and how it works in this video.

It’s also theorized that Google looks to many other data sources, such as Chrome browser usage statistics and domain registration data to aid in their never‐ending pursuit of new websites and webpages.

SEOs sometimes get a bit paranoid about this kind of stuff, which leads to studies like this and this.

To summarise, this means that search engines are pretty good at discovering new websites and webpages on their own, provided that they’re linked‐to from somewhere on the web. (We’ll talk more about the importance of links later!)

Why you should still submit your website to search engines

Here are just a few reasons why manual submissions are still a “thing”:

  1. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Let’s face it, search engines will probably be able to find your website regardless of whether or not you choose to manually submit it. But is “probably” good enough? I mean, submitting your website only takes a minute‐or‐two. So why risk it?;
  2. Search engines can’t figure out everything via crawling. If you submit your website via the methods discussed below, you’ll have the opportunity to supply Google and Bing with some useful information about your website. For example, you can tell them how important you deem each of your pages to be. They couldn’t obtain this information from crawling alone.
  3. It helps to improve your website. Google and Bing each offer some insights as to how they view your website in their respective “management dashboards” (more on this later!). There are also various tools for testing your web pages, and they’ll alert you if and when potential problems or errors occur on your site.

Having said that, be aware that submitting your website to, and getting indexed by Google is only part of the battle. The real difficulty often lies in ranking for your desired search terms.

Don’t worry though, we’ve included some advice on how to do that in this very article.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

How to submit your website to Google

It’s very easy to submit websites to Google (and other search engines).

Just watch our quick video tutorial or follow the written steps below.

Google discontinued their URLsubmission tool in July 2018. Now, the only way to submit your website is by adding your sitemap in Search Console.

What is a sitemap? It’s a file that lists all the pages on a website. It’s most commonly an XML file and looks something like this:

xml sitemap example

This particular sitemap lists all the blog posts on my personal blog.

Your sitemap is usually located at If you don’t see it there, check your robots.txt file by visiting; this will usually list the sitemap URL.

an example of the sitemap URL listed in a robots.txt file

You need to create one.

There are a few ways to do this. If you’re using WordPress (or another CMS), you can use one of many plugins for generating sitemaps automatically. We recommend Yoast SEO. For static websites, this sitemap generator works well. If you prefer a more manual/customized approach, follow this guide by Screaming Frog.

Found your sitemap? Good. You now need to submit it via Search Console.

Search Console > select your property > Sitemaps > paste in your sitemap URL > hit “submit”

You will need add and verify your website in Google Webmaster Tools before doing this. If you haven’t done so yet, follow this tutorial then come back to this guide.

Note that I’m using the new beta version of Search Console. Here’s how to do it in the old one:

Search Console > select your property > Crawl > Sitemaps > Add/test sitemap > paste in your sitemap URL > hit “submit”

For those with multiple sitemaps (this may be the case when using a plugin like Yoast, or if you have a large site), just rinse and repeat this process.

What if I just want to submit an individual webpage to Google?

Google previously provided a way to do this via their URL submission tool, which was discontinued in 2018.

However, if you’re still using the old version of Search Console, you can submit individual URLs using the “Fetch as Google” tool. To do that, go to:

Search Console > Crawl > Fetch as Google > paste in your URL > Fetch

fetch as google

Next, you need to hit the “Request indexing” button, which brings up a modal box like this:

request indexing

Tick that you’re not a robot (you’re not, are you!?), then choose whether you want Google to crawl just this URL, or this URL and its direct links.

That’s it. Job done.

But what about in the new Search Console? Can you still do this?

Well, it seems that Google has removed the “Fetch as Google” tool and replaced it with the URL inspection tool. The main purpose of this tool is to inspect URLs to uncover issues, but it may also work the same way as the old “Fetch as Google” tool when it comes to (re)crawling.

The problem is that Google’s instructions on the use of this tool don’t make much sense.

To submit a URL to the index:

1. Inspect the URL using the URLInspection tool.

2. Select Request indexing. The tool will run a live test on the URL to see whether it has any obvious indexing issues, and if not, the page will be queued for indexing. If the tool finds issues with the page you should try to fix them.

Inspecting the URL is easy enough; there’s just no “request indexing” button.

no request indexing

So, right now, we’re not sure how this works. However, this tool is still in beta, so chances are that Google will add this button at a later date.

For now, however, you should probably just stick to the “Fetch as Google” tool in the old version of Search Console.

How to submit your website to Bing and Yahoo

Unlike Google, Bing still has a public URL submission tool.

You can use this to submit any website (it doesn’t have to your own) to Bing in a matter of seconds. Just paste in homepage URL, fill in the captcha and hit submit.

bing submission

But this isn’t the method we’d recommend. It makes much more sense to submit your full sitemap within Bing Webmaster Tools.

Webmaster Tools > “add your site” > fill in the form > hit “submit”

Add a Site Bing Webmaster Tools

To submit your site to Yahoo, you don’t need to do anything. Yahoo is powered by Bing’s index. By submitting to Bing, your site will automatically be submitted to Yahoo.

Does your website have an audience in China? You should also submit to Baidu (76%+ market share). If not, however, Google, Bing and Yahoo are your only priorities. We, therefore, won’t be focussing on Baidu in this article, Here’s a good guide to Baidu submission in case you need it.

How to check if your website is indexed

Using a “site” search in Google is the quickest way to check whether a site or webpage is indexed.

Here’s the syntax:

site search one page

Using the “site” operator to check whether or not my list of link building strategies has been indexed in Google.

You can also check the index status of your site as a whole by using the site:operator combined with your domain, rather than a specific webpage.

site search google

This search operator works in Google and Bing.

No results? Your website or webpage probably hasn’t been indexed.

Don’t worry if this remains the case for the first few days after publishing. If it still hasn’t been indexed after a week‐or‐two, however, there may be an issue.

You can also check the index status of your site in Google Search Console. However, only the new Google Search Console will show you a list of indexed pages.

Search Console > Status > Index Coverage

Go to the the “Valid” tab and select either “Indexed, not submitted in sitemap” or “Submitted and indexed” to see a list of pages in Google’s index.

indexed pages search console

You can also do this in Bing Webmaster Tools.

What to do if your website (or webpage) isn’t indexed

If you’ve come to the conclusion that your desired website or webpage isn’t indexed, you first need to figure out why this is.

Here are a few common reasons why this might happen, plus some solutions:

  • The webpage has a noindex tag. This tells Google and other search engines not to index a page. You can check for the presence of a noindex tag on a web page, which you can then remove (if required), by searching for a noindex tag in the HTML of the page. Here’s more information about noindex tags;
  • Indexing is blocked by your robots.txt file. Every website has one of these. It gives spiders a bunch of rules to follow, such as where they can/can’t crawl and the pages they can/can’t index. You can check whether a URLis blocked in robots.txt with Google’s Robots Testing Tool. Simply enter a URL and it’ll return allowed or blocked.
  • Indexing is blocked by the .htaccess file. This is a configuration file for websites running on Apache‐based web servers (which is roughly 46% of all sites). If your .htaccess file contains Header set X‐Robots‐Tag “noindex, nofollow”, it should be removed in order to allow Googlebot to index your website.
If the checks above don’t uncover any issues, it may be the case that the page isn’t indexed because it doesn’t provide enough value. It may also point to a bigger technical problem. In this case, it’s worth employing the skills of a technical SEO expert.

No luck with those? Try Google’s URLinspection tool in the new Search Console.

Search Console > URL inspection > enter page URL > hit enter

not on google url inspection

You can see that this URL isn’t indexed in Google. But why?

Scroll down and Google will give more details. With this particular page, it’s because there is a 301 redirect and canonical tag in place.

index coverage

So nothing to worry about in this instance as the canonical URL is indexed. But should Google kick back a genuine error that you aren’t aware of, the next step would be to fix the issue and hopefully, get your page indexed.

You can find a full list of error status types that Google may show here.

Why submitting your website to Google ≠ ranking in Google (and how to fix it)

Most Google searches return thousands, if not millions of results.

youtube seo google

25M+ results for the term “youtube SEO” in Google.

But most people never click beyond the first page, which means that those ranking beyond position #10 receive little to no traffic. For this reason, being indexed doesn’t necessarily mean that people will be able to find your website.

If you want organic traffic, you need to rank on the first page for your target terms (ideally in the top 3 results).

How do you do this? It’s complicated, but one thing you almost certainly need is backlinks.

Google counts links from other websites as votes. So when they’re presented with two or more pages on the same topic, the page with the most links (i.e., votes) will usually rank higher than the pages with fewer links.

This is not an exact science. We’re absolutely not saying that pages with more backlinks ALWAYS beat those with fewer backlinks. This isn’t true.

Having said that, when we studied almost one billion web pages, we found that the number of referring domains pointing to a web page correlates nicely with the amount of Google search traffic it receives on the whole.

You can use the SERP overview in Ahrefs Keywords Explorer to see how many links each of the current top‐10‐ranking pages have (for your target keyword).

This will give you a rough idea of how many backlinks you may need in order to compete in the SERP. (You can also look at our Keyword Difficulty score to get an indication of this.)

But it’s not all about links. You also need to make sure your on‐page optimization is up to scratch and that your keyword targeting is on‐point.

Here are some resources to help with each of these things.
